'Build' details on desktop.

DB.

After installing some (non-M$) software the words "Windows XP
Professional" with Build and SP details appeared in the bottom RH corner
of my desktop. I've now uninstalled that s/w and removed all files, but
this info. remains.
These details are readily available at Help --> About Windows. Can
anyone tell me, please, where in the Registry is the line that's causing
this info. to appear on the desktop?

TIA,
DB.

Thanks for yor reply. Are you familiar with this, I wonder? It's a
(very short - 1 sec.) download prog. that's clearly intended to edit the
Registry line. I've run it three times, each time without success. Of
course I've shut down and re-booted after each attempt.

Thanks for your reply, David.
Please excuse my ignorance - I've found the line in the Registry, but
what do I do? Do I delete the line, or edit the data? What do I
change?
I'm not a frequent visitor to the Registry, but know that when I'm there
I must tread carefully!

Experience, we're all brilliant, and we know about the MSKB,
Google and the MVP websites.

| Thanks. Job done!
| How do you guys know where to find these thing, I wonder?

I don't see DB's last post (but because you include text I could read it in this message). Kelly's file does exactly the same thing.

Yes, Jim, I'm far from brilliant but I know about all those sources and
wouldn't ask a question on a ng without first having tried them. But
it's sometimes difficult to choose the right words for their search
engines.

That's the brilliant part.
