Sometime when I put my windows 2000 server machine on, a blue screen will
come & the system will restart automatically. The message in event ID is

Source: Save Dump Event ID: 1001 Category: none
The computer has rebooted from a bugcheck. The bugcheck was: 0x0000004e
(0x00000007, 0x000016e0, 0x00000001, 0x00000000). Microsoft Windows 2000

Bugcheck 4E is 'PFN_LIST_CORRUPT' and relates to memory and pagefile management.

It is typically caused by defective memory, but can be caused through software
errors in device drivers.
(Slightly) more detail: http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=291806

Download a memory tester. memtest86 is good (you can get either a .ISO for
making a bootable CD, or a .BIN file for writing to a floppy disk with
RAWRITE.EXE (also available from the link below) and then boot off the media you
created. If anything appears in the lower half of the screen, you have
defective memory.

Downloadable memtest86 binary:
http://www.memtest86.com/#download0

Choose either the "Download - Pre-Compiled Memtest86 v3.2 installable from
Windows and DOS" link to make a floppy (unzip into a directory, and from the DOS
prompt, while sat in that directory, type RAWRITE memtest.bin A:, or select the
"Download - Memtest86 v3.2 ISO image (zip)" link, unzip that, and use your CD
writing software to burn that ISO file **AS*AN*IMAGE** to a blank CD. In Nero,
you have to tell it to look for 'All files' or 'ISO files'. Adaptec's software
has a 'Burn Image' option in the first menu. If, after burning, you can see a
'memtest86-3.2.iso' file on the CD, you've done it wrong.
