I've found a BUG in the tool : It used to claim that there is no FIREWALL
exist even if MICROSOFT Firewall was there !!!

The tool was fixed to included a new message.

Old message:

No active firewall was found on your system or the firewall you use is
unknown to us. If you don´to use a firewall you should download and install
one or activate windows xp´s own one. In case you got questions or you want
us to add the firewall you use to our database, contact us at our forum
www.hijackthis-forum.de

New message:

We didn't detect any active process of a firewall on your system. Reasons
maybe:
(1.) You are using the windows firewall or a hardware firewall.
(2.) You are using a firewall of an unknown vendor.
(3.) You are using a firewall, but for unknown reasons it is disabled
(4.) You don't use any firewall at all.
We recommend you to use a firewall. Download and install one or activate
windows xp´s own one. In case you got questions or you want us to add the
firewall you use to our database, contact us at our forum.

Included my case on HijackThis forum:

Hi BB
Did the same to me a couple of months ago when I first tried it - I read it
as a 'sales pitch' - hope I was right. I use Zone Alarm and it was running
OK at the time.
Mind you, Zone Alarm says I am not running any antivirus at all.

This is not a Windows issue. Contact the HJT analyzer people for issues
with their program. BTW, most of us techs who routinely use HJT to
clean up malware do not recommend using the analyzer-type websites.

That was a rude response. All he was doing was giving information and if you
would have read it you would have seen that he did contact them and they
fixed his issue. Why are you MVP's so rude?

I'm sorry if you thought it was rude. It wasn't meant to be. Since the
OP posted about an issue that has nothing to do with the XP operating
system (which is what this newsgroup is for), I referred him to the
correct place to make his comments - which is not here. This poster has
a history of doing that sort of thing. This is a tech support newsgroup
on Usenet, not a chat forum.

Your generalization of "Why are you MVP's so rude" is not very polite.
You apparently have confused being direct and to-the-point with
rudeness. You perhaps don't understand Usenet posting styles since if
you did, you would know how polite the MS newsgroups are compared to
other public groups. Here are some links to explain about Usenet:

Actually, Malke is generally very nice. Maybe she has not
had her coffee yet this morning ?? In general most of the
MVP's are good people (although they do get VERY
tired of answering the same question that was asked
yesterday -- and the day before --- and ... ). In this case,
I would agree it was a valid post (the OP). He provided
good information and a solution to a utility that while not
directly part of XP is often used by a lot of us. There are
a couple of "MVP"'s that think it means "Most Valuable
Poster", but most of them are very good and very helpful
(and on their time for no $$ either)

No it was not. It was succinct and correct. This News Group is for supporting Windows XP.
It is NOT a security related News Group nor a News Group related to Merijn's software or
software that analyzes a HJT log.

Thank You !!!!!!!!!!

You are wrong - sorry.
Malke has infinite patience with all who post - though I sometimes wonder
how she manages it with some of the questions - mine included.
Lets just put it down to your lack of reading posts frequently in these
groups - it does take a while to get the general 'flavour'.
I can think of a couple of responders who give no quarter at all for even a
slightly off threader.
Blunt she may be and to the point - rude never - unless it is asked for, and
well deserved.

Considering that a very high percentage of any and all posters
reporting any kind of problem at all with Windows first get
an MVP diagnosis that it is probably spyware or a virus and you
should run all these xxx free diagnosis tools including HiJackThis,
his posting that the tool was incorrectly reporting something about
a Windows provided piece of software, not just any random piece of
software, seems to score higher for being on topic than many other
reported Windows problems here.

Count what percentage of people reporting problems of any kind
are first told to go run this list of other company's software
including HiJackThis.

If the new rules are that all those names of products are dropped
then this is going to get interesting.

I've read enough in this group to know that HJT logs are not allowed and
that it seems everyone is told to run HJT and post it elsewhere. It seems
the OP followed the directions given and reported a problem that was not
unique to just his system, as stated by another poster. The key word in the
name of this group is "General" meaning no specific problem. So his post was
not off topic.
