BSOD: driver_irql_not_less_or_equal, usbport.sys

Here's my computer configuration:

Motherboard: Asus Striker Extreme

Video Card: XFX 8800 Ultra

CPU: Intel QX6700

Memory: Corsair Dominator PC8500 1066MHz DDR2

Power Supply: Cooler Master Real Power 1000W

OS: Windows XP Pro w/ all latest updates/patches

My computer is about 2 months old and has been running fine up til 3 days
ago. 3 days ago, I got the first blue screen of death (BSOD). Then I got
another one 4-5 hours later. The frequency gradually increased and now, the
computer hangs after the MS Windows XP logo comes up.

I removed the hard drives, replaced it with a brand new hard drive and tried
to reinstall Windows XP. The installation proceeds until Windows XP starts
up. It's installing components and then after a while, I get the BSOD.

On the blue screen, the error message DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL comes up
along with some other useless text. At the bottom of the message, I get
another message indicating the crash had something to do with USBPORT.SYS.

What I've done so far is wasted 2 full days cross checking every hardware
component on another PC I have: video card, memory, hard drive(s), etc. I
unplugged everything from my machine. I even pulled out the old PS2 keyboard
and mouse to use (in other words, I have no USB devices connected). I tried
to reinstall Windows XP again and the same thing happens. At this point, I'm
thinking it's the motherboard that's bad, but I want to see if anyone here
has had similar experience or knows of the problem.

I wanted to open a ticket with Microsoft but along the way, it says I need
the product ID (PID). Well, I can't get the PID if the installation never
completed. I only have the installation key. Does anyone know how I can
open a ticket without the PID?

Any help here would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance.

Unplug power to PS,remove board battery, locate the CMOS jumper pin & move
from 1-2 to 2-3 position for .45 seconds or so,then move pin back to
1-2.Replace
battery,start pc.On start-up,reset basic BIOS
settings,date/time,etc,save,then
reset to add ons,set cdrom as 1 boot device,hd 2nd,install xp cd,save &
exit BIOS,
boot to xp cd,install xp.Select install,new copy,delete partition,create
one,let xp
format & install.Make sure all hardware add-ons are disconnected
(physically),
before install, also, forget usb untill SP1 or 2 is installed....

It might be faulty RAM. How many sticks. If more than one try removing
one, If that does not work swap the one removed for another.

Might be the memory. Just went thru this myself for the past
2 months. First BSOD then other blue screens, then files get
corrupted and finally complete reformat and install of the
complete system. Originally had 2 512K sticks of mem. Finally
took both out and replaced with original 256K that came with
this system. Then reformatted and reinstalled everything. I have
had no blue screens or any file corruptions since. Still have to
get myself 2 new 512K sticks. Thats all this machine can handle.
Hope this was informative to you.

Were both faulty?

Don't believe both are faulty but definately one of them
is. With the price of these sticks available at Circuit
city for about $35 a stick, it's not worth trying to figure
out which one is bad. Easier to replace both.
Would rather do that then go thru this mess of rebuilding
my system again. It's been 2 weeks now and I'm still not
sure everything has been re=installed. Time will tell.
