I concur. What is going on. Is this an attack by a virus
or something?

Browswer will not open at all. I run Win XP. Error
message says IE has
encountered an error and must close, sorry for any
convenience.
AppName: iexplore.exe
AppVer: 6.0.2800.1106
ModName: Winshow.dll
ModVer: 1.0.0.3
Offset: 000a95e

I can access the Net through "search" feature from
MyComputer. I downloaded
the latest IE 6 setup (479kb) but trying to update, then
I get the message
that the computer has detected a "newer version" of IE
and cannot continue
setup. (How can there be a newer version than
the "latest version"
02/26/2004 from www.microsoft.com)?

Any suggestions as to what to do here? Short of pulling
out my original XP
restore CDs and reinstalling the fresh-out-of-the-box
version of IE 6?

Mike,
Best thing I can tell you is have someone go to:
http://www.pestpatrol.com/PestInfo/w/winshow.asp

Have them copy *all* the info, not just print the page.
Then send it to you ......

Restart in Safe Mode and run your AV ......
