You're not going to believe this, but I've been having problems with
Firefox or IE crashing, and I've noticed that they never crash while
Task Manager is running!

Just now I was running IE with Task Manager running for about 45
minutes, okay. I turned off TM, and a minute later, IE crashed! I
went to the same pages I had visited earlier.

There is no logical explanation for this, but I'd like any ideas you
might have.

There was also a time I was running procmon.exe (which displays which
processes are running) with Firefox. Again, when I close procmon, FF
soon crashed. Can't explain.

Thanks.

There IS a logical explanation for this behaviour - it's just that
neither you nor I know what it is!

I find computers display many similar 'quirks' that must have a logical
reasoning to what is going on because computers are built on logic.

It is just that computers are so complex now, paradoxes happen, where
some code interacts with some other code in an unexpected way.

That these "interactions" happen and that programmers are not completely
aware of what is happening in them, is seen in their use of the term
"buggy" in an attempt to describe such odd behaviour in a system that is
beyond any one person's ability to totally comprehend.

Perhaps Task Manager occupies a bad area of RAM, so that the browser
never uses it. Then, when I stop Task Manager, the browser uses it
and crashes.

Hi Richard,

Way back during the infant stages of XP (before SP1) - when a program froze
or similar, just opening Task Manager - intending on ending the process -
but never having to go that far....the program gained new life. Go figure!
