Browsers keep crashing

I'm having problems. Is there a virus going round that would cause this?
I've done a virus scan, reinstalled Windows, etc.

Every internet application keeps crashing. IE6 and Mozilla Firefox crash
immediately. They load, then end a second later.

Outlook express crashes a few minutes after loading.

Other applications that connect to the internet crash quickly.

Crashing only happens when I'm actually connected. If I turn off
my modem, I can work offline without crashing.

Is there a fix for this?

I can't access web pages, but I might be able to use a downloader to
get a fixer.

What firewall are you using?

Since you know the machine is virus/malware-free (presumably you didn't
connect to the Internet without having at least the XP SP2 firewall
active), uninstall your modem and swap it out for a known-working one.
If you are uncomfortable opening your pc and/or don't have spare parts
on hand, take the machine to a local computer repair shop.

Go to MSCONFIG and turn off all startup items and see if something there is
causing it. It is the place to start diagnosing.

Hi:

If this problem started after you removed spyware then it could have
corrupted your WinSock. If this is the case then recommend that you run the
WinSock fix tool for XP. http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4372.html

In addition, right click on My Computer>Properties>Hardware Tab>Device
Manager and see if you modem driver is working properly. In Device Manager
open Modem and right click on the name of your modem and go to Properties
and Driver Tab. Your modem driver could be corrupted and reinstalling or
upgrading it might solve your problem

I was using the one built into XP SP2.

since reinstalling Windows, I've reverted back to SP1, so right at this
precise moment, no firewall installed.

I check that regularly, only a small number of trusted programs on startup.

It's fairly safe to say that you have at least one hijacker (probably
hundreds -all trying to get you to use their diallers and those that
aren't are trying to get you to send out their spam for them.)

You probably can't get any of these: CCleaner, CWShredder, SpyBot,
AdAware and an antivirus and third party Firewall. I'd get a friend to
download them for you and run them in safe mode on your computer.

Run them a few times than see if you can get them updated. Then run
them again in safe mode. Run them in the order given above.

I hope you succeed. More advice here: http://www.spywarewarrior.com/

Good luck.

You can turn that one off but it's not going to make shit crash.

Hi this will fix 90% of browser crashes and some pc's that are crashing
every 20 - 30 minutes due to the browser.

Open internet explorer.
At the top tool bar click on tools/internet options/on the general tab click
settings and change the number in the box to 80mb.
The number in the box is the number of megabites explorer is using to work.
the best options are 63mbto 80mb happy surfing. :blush:p
