Browsers are all freezing

For some reason, the past couple of days, when I search
onine, my browsers freeze up after just a few page looks.
It is like it is trying to load a page but nothing works,
none of the navigation buttons or anything. I have Windows
XP, but I think something must have been changed in my
computer settings because I have used IE for months without
problems. Not a real technical person. Can someone help?
