Adobe reader opens and freezes IE for 5 minutes

Since yesterday, a few sites have been freezing up when I open their home
page. For instance when I open www.ihatedialysis.com, IE 6 freezes for 2
minutes, then an empty Adobe Reader window opens. After 3 more minutes the
website will finally open and everything works fine. If I click on a link
back to the index page the browser freezes up again. Most sites work fine,
and nothing ever loads in the Adobe window, so I just close it. Sometimes
it pops back up and I just kill it again. I opened "Tools > Manage Add-ons"
and disabled the Acrobat helper object, but nothing changed. I see no
evidence any of the affected websites have PDF files associated with them.
Does the link I provided have any problem with your browsers?
I downloaded this week's Windows updates. Is there an issue with any of
them?
Thanks,
Rusty

I uninstalled Acrobat 7 and re-installed a new copy, now the problem is
fixed.

While I had Acrobat uninstalled, I opened the problem site and it loaded
fine with no delay.
Here's a question: After installing the new Acrobat 7, I opened the problem
website and the Adobe EULA popped up. There is no PDF involved with the
home page, but I okayed it and it closed and disappeared. Then the page
loaded normally. So why would this site need to access Acrobat just to open
the home page?
Thanks. Learning something new every day,
Rusty

With the latest versions of Acrobat Reader, you'll notice they've put a
"Quick Start" link in your Startup folder. Start...Programs...Startup.
Remove that. The new AR is sort of "web aware" and this can cause problems.
PDF files will not open as fast when you first use it in a Windows session,
but this should prevent the problem. Also note that the acrord32.exe
process won't quit when you close AR a lot of the times, too.

The page was also ok for me.
It states the page is undergoing changes so perhaps clear your history and
make new links.
There was only a poster in .pdf format which I downloaded.
I do not view them in my browser.
My guess is that you have it configured to display in your browser, and it
picked up the .pdf file on the page but since you had just installed need to
consent to the agreement first if you did want to read it.
Also check your settings for updates and do them manually.
I see no reason for it to be in my startup either.
By the way I only use Adobe reader if absolutely necessary like for
government forms.

This reader is faster and smaller and no install.

I was rather interested in the site as I used to work with those with
Diabetes undergoing dialysis. (Not all had Diabetes) I certainly admire your
strength, if you or an important other is so affected.

Thanks, I've been on dialysis for 20 years. Feel great, still using
original fistula access.
