browser window won't close

When I click on the X button of my IE 6.0 Window a little
beep sound goes off and the window will not close. I have
to go to the task manager and click on end task a half
dozen times before a boxs comes up saying "Program will
not respond" and forcefully closes the window. Does
anyone know how to fix this?

Mine is doing the same thing did all kinds of stuff to
try and fix it even reinstalled windows no luck

First eliminate any scumware.

Note that AdAware and SpyBot S & D will each catch some things the other
won't. Also, each needs to be updated before every use, even when just
downloaded. There's also a lot more to do than just those two programs.

I had the same problem. After contacting MS they sujested
that my system could be infected with 'spyware'.
And it was. I had tens of spyware files on my system. Had
to scan for them and remove them. After restaring the
computer the problem has gone.
You can get some free programs of the net. I used some
from the CD that come with the 'PC Authority' magazine
that I buy from time to time. If this does not work talk
to MS support people through the e-mail.

Rule out parasites that are known to cause this.

Try this: Tools > Internet Options > Advanced > Browsing
Uncheck the Enable 3rd party browser extensions

If this clears your problem then find out who the culprit(s) is/are with
these tools.

Let AD-Aware Scan your system for advertising Spyware

p.s Reset the 3rd party browser setting.

More: This may be caused by a third-party program (adware, spyware,
parasite).
Get AdAware and SpyBot and run them both. Keep them up to date.
