Browser window re-sizing peculiarity

If I click a link on a webpage, the new window that opens is tall and
very skinny. Previously, the new window would be wider than it was
high. If I re-size the window by stretching it, subsequent links will
open the same, but if I close the browser and re-open it, any
secondary window goes back to being tall and skinny. Is there a way
that I can get the sizing back to how it used to look, please?

1. Open such a window.

2. Stretch it to the desired size; do not Maximize it.

3. Close all other IE windows.

4. Close the resized window.
