After I've had the explorer running for a little bit it
says it has an encountered a problem and would I like to
send the information to Microsoft. Regardless of whether
I press yes or no, the stupid browser closes itself and I
have to start all over with what I was doing. Why is
this happening!?!?!? It is very frustrating.

Hi Nichole -

Could be happening for a variety of reasons. Everything from a corrupt
file/element of IE, to a spyware/malware infestation. When you get the "MS
has encountered a problem...", click the Details link (functions like a
button, but is not a button) for details. Take note of what the error
message is, and post it in the newsgroup. Include the whole error, up to,
but not including any registers. They can provide a clue for those you can
interpret them.

You should also do some scans of your system for the presence of unwanted
pests, and spyware items.

Read the above web page closely as it is very thorough, from a very
reputable Webmaster MVP, and a *great* site. Follow those recommendations.

If you want to try, you can attempt to "repair" IE. You will need to access
Msinfo32.exe to do this. Or depending on which version of Windows you are
running, you can do it by Add/Remove programs. In Add/remove programs>select
Microsoft internet explorer6 SP1 and Internet tools>click Add/remove> select
the "radio button" for Repair.

Otherwise:
Start>Run> type: Msinfo32>Tools menu of Msinfo32>Internet Explorer repair
tool> Repair internet explorer. If that doesn't work, you can try going back
to previous version (if XP, there *is* no previous version). If all else
fails, try re-installing IE (with all of the updates).

Hi ... had similar problem for past few weeks. Start
CLICKING on that "Details" link and document the
application, version and file that the Error Msg is
reporting. In my case it was IE.exe, ver. 6.0.28+,
msvcrt.dll in each case. I ensured my caches were
cleared, deleted cookies, ran spyware cleaning software,
ensured my HD was clear of viruses, etc.

I was not getting any help from an MVP in this newsgroup,
so I paid MS the $35 for incident tech support. I
HEARTILY recommend this option when all else fails. I
learned my problem was a corrupt msvcrt.dll file. This is
what the Error Msg was trying to tell me. By extracting
the CORRECT VERSION replacement msvcrt.dll from my Windows
Update Setup Files folder that is resident on my HD, my
IE "closing" problems went away.

Here is a brief excerpt from my resolution report for my
files:

.....
Following is a summary of the key points for your records.

Action:Working with Internet Explorer
Result:
Error:
App Name: IExplore.exe
App Ver : 6.0.2800.1106
Mod Name: msvcrt.dll
Mod Ver : 6.18.293.0
Cause:Corrupt file msvcrt.dll
Resolution:Extracted the file msvcrt.dll from
c:\windows\windows update setup
files folder
.....
Your problem may not be EXACTLY the same, but it may be
similar enough for you to try another option at resolution.
If you are an improving novice, as I, I suggest you seek
COMPETENT tech support and pay the $35. If your software
is still in the warranty period, it may not cost you
anything. At least the Tech will guide you through a
troubleshooting session that you can employ on future
problems. That, alone, is worth the $35.

Good Luck!
Pamela
