Brother MFC problem

Ben

I am having a very strange problem with my Brother MFC 9600. At
random times when I print it will print strange characters across a
single row on the bottom of the sheet of paper and that is it. It
does not print anything else on the page. It will continue doing this
for page after page until the printer is turned off. It is completely
random when it happens and I can't attribute it to a single
application causing the error. It also happens at random with the
other computer that prints to it over the LAN.

In addition whenever I start windows I get a Found New Hardware Wizard
stating, "An error occured during the installation of the device.
Brother MFC 9600/9870 Series. The required section was not found in
the INF." This happens even though the printer is installed and the
newest drivers have been installed.

Win 2k pro sp4.
Data Format: Raw
Driver name: UNIDRV.DLL
Data file: BRM9600.GDP
Config file: UNIDRVUI.DLL
Driver Version: 5.00
Environment: Windows NT x86

Thank you in advance for the help.

You haven't mention the cable you connect the printer. I suspect parallel or
usb. Try replacing the cable.
