Brother HL-5250DN Network Questions?

I have a small IP network with both Win XP desktops/laptops and Linux
(SuSE) servers and several printers with BSD protocol print servers.
All has worked well.

Very recently I needed to replace my bug HP Laser printer and I
purchased a Brother HL-5250DN with the built in network adapter.

I fiddled with the web configurator using one of the wired Linux
servers and even though I changed the config to meet my network specs
none of my desktop clients could print to it. The build in print
server does not respond to pings. However, when I use the web
configuration to print the current config all the specs seem correct.

Surprisingly when I plug in an external IP based printer server the
printing works just fine. But the reason for purchasing this
particular printer was because it has its own network adapter and I
could use the external print server on another printer.

Has anyone worked with this printer in a networked (TCP -
Linux/Windows MIX) and gotten it to work?

If so - how?

Any assistance very much appreciated.

Works for me via winxp/linux desktop & winxp/linux laptop.

My config for the 5250dn is just using the DHCP of the router to assign
the DHCP ip of the 5250dn as my desktop & laptop is config to use a
"static" ip from the router. The printer is assigned the lowest ip
in the range while the computers set their ip way up in the range so
no conflicts arise. The printer is left on.

Probably the default config of the printer is not to respond to pings
like my router which is also configed not to respond to pings (theorectially).

Well, thanks for the responses, all. What I ultimately did was to
reset the printer to factory defaults, delete the printer from my
desktop then add a new one and, following the Brother tech page
examples, added a new port (standard TCP/IP) and it started working!
Go figure.

So I did this with the remaining XP desktops in my small office.

Now I'm on to try the same with my Linux servers and notebooks...
