Any experience with the newly released Brother HL-5250DN or HL-5240
laser printers?

My experience is only 1 day old....works very nicely when connected
to the 5250DN is connected to the router. No problem with winxp
or linux (the PPD file is on the cd & must be copied manually to
the cups/../.. directory.. see doc or website).

It is very fast & the duplex mode is somewhat like the canon
ip3000; the front page gets printed, "pops" out partially, then
pulled back & the back is printed.

Think it uses 144-pin SODimm but not sure if it is SODimm or Dimm
as the doc say Dimm but don't see any 144-pin Dimm available for
memory upgrade to 512 meg. Read where the ram can be configured
as a ramdisk for spooling for multiple users.

Believe that duplex bw lasers are now nearly "throw-away" as the
price at Staples is $249 & a new drum is $179 when 25,000 pages
have been reached; think the price will be lower then (for me
since it will be a few years from now).

The 5250DN & 5240 only have been released in Oct, 2005 so one
shouldn't expect too much experiences with them. Oh, the
printer can be left powered on as there is an auto sleep mode
that also has an auto-wake when data is sent to the printer.

Thanks. Does anybody have any Mac experience with this new line of
printers?
