All my pictures, backgrounds, and games are too dark to
see clearly. My monitor controls have very litle
effect. What do I use with Windows XP to help with this
problem?

David... Man, sounds like the monitor is shot. Hook the
monitor up to another PC. Good Luck

Change your monitor to Plug and Play. And then change the
refresh rate. Play around. One of the settings will make
it lighter.

Buy a new monitor (he said flippantly). Attempts at
cuteness aside, this truly does sound like a hardware
problem, not software. If you can swap a known, good,
"bright" monitor to your system and it still shows up dark,
please (a) accept my apologies for failed humor and (b) let
us all know when you get the XP solution.

Sounds like you may have a monitor that is just simply going bad. But
a lot of video cards do include controls to change the
brightness/contrast/color/Gamma etc in them.

Open Control Panel/Display
Click Settings tab then advanced button.
Look for a Tab that says Color or maybe Gamma
If such a tab exists then you may be able to ramp up the brightness
some there.
