On mine its the blue key and F-8. YMMV as noone knows what laptop you have!

Most laptops usually have a Brightness / Contrast controls, either directly or
with various FN key combos. Check out your manual.

It may be for power saving, when you have it plugged in is it dim? There
should be a key on the keyboard which has the regular key and then to the
side of the letter or number it should have a different colored symbol. Look
for the key that says fn hold it down and push the key that has a sun with an
up arrow on it. Click that key while holding the fn key down and it will
gradually brighten up. Good Luck.

one more thing. Keep holding the fn key down and keep clicking the sun with
the up arrow on it it will need to be pushed a multiple of times to get it to
where you want it. Then when done let go of both keys. Good Luck.

i tried that and the brightness is already all the way up. When I unplug my
battery from the computer the monitor gets dim but when i plug it back up the
monitor get bright.

Consult your laptop's manual. This varies from laptop to laptop. Usually
there's a knob, slider, or keys on the keyboard to control this (if it's on
the keyboard, you usually have to hold the Fn key while hitting any
volume/brightness/contrast controls that share keys with normal keyboard
functions). If adjusting the brightness control doesn't work, might talk
to your local BBB for a good laptop repair shop and have them take a look
at your backlight.

If it's a ThinkPad (I'm not sure if you mentioned what kind of laptop you
have yet), hit your ThinkPad key to bring up the ThinkPad control panel,
and in the power settings, you can disable having the monitor dim when you
unplug your laptop. Note that this will reduce your battery life by a few
minutes.
