Brian Tillman's messages are getting cancelled

Does Brian know that his posts are getting cancelled. When I try to see his
reply, I get that the post is no longer available on the server. On a
refresh of the group, his posts then disappear. His replies can be seen in
someone's reply to him but his post is gone.

I did not know that Microsoft NNTP server actually honored cancel requests.
I don't see a control.cancel newsgroup. Any ideas on how or why Brian's
posts are getting purged from the Microsoft server (the one to which I
connect and apparently the one that Brian uses)? Some posts are still
around, like his reply with a subject of "Re: foward and reply arrows
missing in messages", but others have been purged, like his reply with a
subject of "Re: getting hotmail emails in outlook 2000".

Is Brian a troll? Doesn't look like it from his old posts that still exist
on the server. Is there an imposter here? Without a control.cancel group,
I don't think even Brian could cancel his own posts.

most likely the server he's posting the message to is out of sync with the
one you are reading from - his header is available on your server but the
message body hasn't synced, so it's 'canceled' when you try to download the
body.

I'm using Microsoft's NNTP server. It appears that Brian is also using
Microsoft's NNTP server. When I was in the group, selecting his newest
messages resulted in "message no longer on server" and it got crossed out.
Later when I reentered the group and it got refreshed, those "no longer
here" messages were removed from the message list pane.

In the Path header for Tillman's posts, it says his post originated at Path:
TK2MSFTNGP08.phx.gbl!TK2MSFTNGP14.phx.gbl (and it is the only host in the
Path header). I'm using Microsoft's NNTP server (msnews.microsoft.com) and
my posts have a Path header that has
TK2MSFTNGP08.phx.gbl!TK2MSFTNGP12.phx.gbl for the NNTP host. There is a
slight difference in the host names (P12 for me and P14 for Brian) but it
sure looks like both of us are using Microsoft's NNTP service.

I was thinking that Brian might've cancelled his own posts; however, there
is no control.cancel group to which the cancels would get submitted, and I
wasn't aware (and had thought) that Microsoft would actually honor cancels
which would lead to abuse by malcontents cancelling posts from anyone they
don't like. If Microsoft does honor cancels then I was wondering if someone
was being nasty and cancelling his posts (and why I posted this off-topic
message just in case cancels were honored and we had a cancel gang roaming
here). If the hosts are getting out of sync, they are within Microsoft's
own NNTP farm.

Cancels can only be done by the NNTP admin at MS. I haven't seen any of
Brian's posts getting removed when I look at them. I have seen similar
things with OE when it gets screwed up, which is entirely too often though.
I certainly wouldn't consider him a troll, his answers (if sometimes gruff)
are almost always knowledgeable and on point.

Okay then, must've been OE screwed up. I've seen Brian here before but
sometimes imposters show up. Glad to here that only authorized accounts can
perform cancels.

Even the MVP's can't cancel anything. We can request a cancel, that's about
it.

It's within the MS server farm - they have more than one server and they
sometimes (occasionally, often...
take your pick) get out of sync. It happened to me last week with a number
of posts.
