Breaks in Sound Playback

Hi,
Whenever i play a sound file in any player,the playback breaks an resumes
automatically(at times).During this break no sounds are heard from the system.
Even the system sounds are not heard
Pls help me this regard

"In any player".....Try selecting one as default,if WMP,in the player go to
tools,options,file types tab,select all,close out WMP.Open device mgr,expand
the sound tree to the hardware,R.click,select uninstall,do not restart
computer,
exit device,shut off computer.If you have a PCI sound card,move the card to
another slot,start computer,xp will reinstall,if its on board sound,do the
same
w/o the card move...
