borderless printing with Epson 2200

I do borderless all the time with Epson Premium Glossy Photo Paper, no
problem. But now I want to print on postcard stock (Avery glossy, 4 1/4" x
5 1/2") with no border that would have to be trimmed. Can't do it: There's
always a white border at top and trailing edge. I select 5x7 Epson
borderless from the menu. (If I select a user-defined page size, it does
not allow me to select borderless.) Any suggestions?

You can create your own custom paper sizes in the Epson printer
setup dialog. Set this up so the size won't have any borders.
Then select this as the size you want to print on.
You can even set up another pseudo-printer with this choice as the
default. Then you only need to select this alternate printer to
have all your settings selected.

Tried that, but with a custom size, it won't let me select "borderless."
That's why I selected a larger size than my paper (5x7 vs 4 1/4 x 5 1/2). I
then set the print size bigger & bigger, but it never filled the paper. If
the printer thought it was printing on 5x7, then why didn't it print even 4
1/4 wide? Especially since it thought it was 5x7 borderless. It must have
detected the edge of the paper.

IIRC, for my R800 the driver only allows borderless printing with
certain media types, so the printer can print to the edge of these
media without dealing with curling/lifting up of the edge and
associated distortion.

Mine too, but I select a media type from the list that allows borderless
printing, and it still doesn't do it when I use a paper size smaller than I
tell it (the size I use is odd, therefore not selectable from a menu).

As others have mentioned, the printer drivers are designed to allow only
for borderless with certain paper stocks and sizes, because they tend to
be able to lay flat enough and not to catch the head due to warping of
the print edge during printing.

I believe the 4 x 6 and 5 x 7 sized borderless are designed for the
Epson roll paper, which allows for continual feeding and therefore back
to back prints, without a space. That cannot be done with cut pieces of
paper.
