Epson R380 borderless prints

I have an 8x10 photo of my Grand-daughter of which I wanted to make a 5x7 copy
for my Mom. So I scanned the picture and tried to print a 5x7, using the
borderless selection. I also checked off fit image to the page. I still came out
with a white band across the bottom of the print. Is this a printing problem or
is it because the ratio of 8x10 reduced to 5x7 just doesn't fill in the paper?
I'm not swift enough at math to figure this out. Thanks.

It is an aspect ratio issue. Shrinking the 8x10 would result in a 5x6.25.
You could try printing it without checking the fit to page, or you may need
to use a photo editing program to properly crop the print.

Thanks. I use Paint Shop Pro, pretty much since it's inception years ago. I'm
using version 8.0 right now, though I actually own the more recent version,
which for some reason I just couldn't get used to. So I just take the scanned
8x10 and figure out how to crop it to 5x7? Makes sense. I just never could
figure out how to crop to a certain size.

The aspect ratio for a 5x7 and an 8x10 are not the same.  To do this you need to crop the image to the same aspect ratio as the 5x7.
