... Bootvis

I'm trying to use bootvis.exe to see what's causing my computer to
take forever booting up. Whenever I try to run bootvis and tell it to
trace my computer's startup process next time Windows loads I get this
error:

"To collect traces, the folder C:\Documents and Settings\My Documents
must have write permissions."

I checked the permissions for this folder and made sure the Everyone
group is assigned the Write permission but I still get the error. Has
anyone else had this problem or does anyone know how to get past this?

thanks, mike

I'm not understanding your problem. Could you explain a little more? You could even attach a
screenshot of the error. Thanks.

Hi Mike,

Go to File/New and choose "Next boot trace" or "Next boot and drivers
chase". Leave everything else as is and get ready for a reboot in 15
seconds.

Then click on the Bootvis.exe, it will now output the results, once it has
finished generating the report, you will see graphs 5 or 6 graphs. They look
a bit confusing at this stage.

From the main menu .. Click on Trace >> optimize system, then reboot.

You will see a message box "Please wait for bootvis to load" ... about 20
seconds later another message box will appear "Optimising system for boot
performance" basically bootvis is rearranging the boot files for a faster
startup.
