Boots to 640 x 480

I'm running XP Home (SP2) with an ATI Radeon All-In-Wonder 8500. I don't
know what I did but it now boots into 640 x 480 screen resolution. I can
reset it to my usual 1024 x 768 with no trouble but the next time I boot,
it's back to 640 x 480. Very annoying, especially as it screws up icon
locations.

I would appreciate any advice.

After you changed your resolution settings, did you click OK? That's wrong.
Change the settings again, then you must click Apply first and then click OK,
to set and save settings.

It's fixed now. This is what I found:

In XP Home, SP2, if I select 'System' from the Control Panel, then click
on 'Advanced', then 'Settings', then 'Advanced' I come to a window that,
among other things, says: 'Memory Usage: Best Performance Of' and the
choices are 'Programs' or 'System Cache'.

If I choose System Cache, boot up always results in 640x480 resolution.
If I choose Programs, everything is OK. I haven't the foggiest idea why. I
just retraced what I had fooled around with yesterday and found out the
above by resetting it to Programs, then System Cache, then Programs,
rebooting each time.
