Changing screen settingsto more than 640 x 480

On my PC I have just reinstalled XP & when it opens up the screen resolution
is very low & windows offers to fix it. I select yes & nothing happens.
When I go into manually change settings I find that medium 16 bit 640 x 480
is all that's on offer. I try the troubleshooter but when I go to select
another setting everything is greyed out & there is nothing to change.
Where do I go from here?

It sounds like you still need to reinstall the graphic card driver.
You can get this from the manufacturers website.

I have the driver but can't install it. Device Manager doesn't have
monitors listed for me to delete ,change or reinstall. Do monitors ever
come under a different category? I have clicked the downloaded file for the
driver for the monitor & it appears that windows is looking for a file with
an .inf extension. I can't see any files like this so that I can link it up
to install under add hardware devices. Any more ideas?

I have also tried reinstalling all of the drivers that came with my Intel
Board CD but the drive drawer won't open to insert the disk. Right clicking
& the eject does nothing either, despite this device manager says that the
CD drive is working properly.
