Booting up with a usb keyboard

Hi all, my m/board recently crapped its ps2 port (ABIT kg7) so i started
using a usb keyboard, but now that i need to format i cant as the keyboard is
only picked up after windows (xp) starts, is there a line i can put in my
auto exec ? or boot off a floppy with a line that'll pick up the keyboard?

Thanks

Unfortunately, some boards just won't properly recognise USB keyboards at
bootup no matter the USB settings - this can also be a problem for non-USB
wireless keyboards (I found this out the other day).

See if you can get a regular keyboard to work for a few.. if not, you may be
shopping for a new board.

Try booting from the XP CD if the machine is set to boot from CD. If it's
not, create a boot disk with an autoexec.bat that loads CD drivers, shifts
to the CD, goes to the /i386 directory on the XP CD, and runs winnt.exe
(this is the XP setup program). That should load sufficient drivers to get
you into the 'format' area, just after you choose the partition to install
to. You could examine the parameters for setup, and add them to the .bat
file if the kb still isn't recognised by the early portion of setup.

If you have to boot from floppy, be sure to add smartdrv commands, or the
install will take hours longer than neccessary.

Alternately you can pop the drive into another machine and format there.
