booting up problems

I'm having problems booting my computer! Running win xp sp2. My computer
turns on, i hear the fan, lights come on, and then nothing. The light on my
CD/DVD burner flashes. There is no signal message on screen, the computer
never gets to the boot up screen. I think it;s not detecting the cd drive.
sometimes if I open and close CD drive door and close it ,it will click on
and the computer boots. If and when I do get on to the screen, i have other
problems. If I let the computer go into sleep mode I can't wake it up. All I
see is no signal message from screen. If anyone can help I appreciate it,
Thanks!!!

Hi Lori,

Do you at least see the POST screen? Are there any beeps? If no POST shows,
then you have a hardware problem, and unless you know a bit about the
system, you are best off taking it to a qualified technician.

You might as well tell Lori that P.O.S.T. stands for Power-On
Self-Test, and during that stage, the BIOS finds the amount of
memory, what devices are in the system, etc. And unless the
BIOS is set for quiet boot mode, this stuff is displayed on the
screen.
