Booting speed problems

I reloaded XP-Pro and found, before the windows logon screen happens, a
black screen appears with a thin (1/4-1/2 inch wide) white line on the
bottom of the screen with vertical black lines which tick off for about 2
min.
Any help to speed up my load time would be appreciated

Now XP-pro boots to the logon screen fine, strange. Now if I can get my home
networking working (internet works fine on both) I will be one happy man
again :) Starband 360 modem really makes things difficult for me.
