You should try safe mode: Press F8 repeatedly during the boot
phase, then select Safe Mode.

You should also report the recent history of this machine. Things
don't usually happen by themselves.

I have tried everything from safe mode to last know good config. If the
problems was to do with windows then why on a repair install would it do the
same?

It appears that certain files are corrupted on your PC that
are required both for a normal boot and for the Recovery
Console. You may have to go through a Repair installation:
Boot the machine with your WinXP CD, then select Repair
when prompted. Note that you may lose all your data and
EMail files when you do this, unless you have backup
copies on a separate medium.

Hi group, I'm having a similar problem w XP Home after installing drivers &
setting up a second monitor. I thought the primary screem was blank when in
fact it was "black on black" ???

Sony notebook with 256 mb graphics card. I set up the properties of second
monitor, Samsung 245bw, and used it for several days without a problem.
Problem started with I went into display properties/ settings/ advanced/ &
some ati screen & chose higher display over performance. I was trying to
adjust primary display 1920x1200 becasuse it looked smaller & dull compared
to my new Samsung. Window screens dragged to the 24" screen looked larger. My
prior second monitor was a Viewsonic 1600x1200. Using same resolution
monitors was supposed to avoid the enlarged screen when dragged to the second
monitor.

I hope this provide details someone would need. When I applied new setting,
primary screen flickered which was not the usual change settings apply
procedure, After rebooting, the secondary monitor was the primary. I reset
secondary & primary, checked all refresh rates, resolution, etc. On
rebooting, the primary screen was blank & secondary was on but without active
desktop, etc. I tried rebooting, etc but screen was always blank, I then
noticed the desktop screen if viewed from an upward angle, everything appears
black on black. I can't see the mouse, etc.

Started in safe mode to last working config. Saw a quick normal color screen
before the black on black view. It's impossible to read the screens, small
fonts, etc with 1920x1200 gone wild mini. I'm afraid to change settings which
started this. The second screen has full color.

HELP, I'm from bc (before computer) generation & can't afford to make things
worse.

Is it possible to copy files from the primary notebook drive via explore
connecting usb cable? Do they make cables with usb male on both ends? My usb
cable have different plugs for external hard drives, mini usb, etc, but not
a single one with usb 2 on both ends.

Is there a name for a black on black screen color I'm describing. Nothing
like new ongoing window problems. Now everyone needs to look up at an angle
to see if monitors are really blank or "black on black" If this is a new
star, do I get to name it?

It's not a good idea to attach your question to someone else's
