I has under the impression that you could not but an operating system onto a
USB2 hard drive but I have since heard that you can provided you change your
BIOS to enable USB booting & select that drive first. Is this true or not?

That's why I asked the question. I was assured by a PC technician that
booting from a USB2 devise was indeed possible.

AFAIK, the OS has to be installed onto a fixed drive..

I suggest asking the Technician you originally spoke with. I am interested
in his directions as to how to do this, because I am unaware of a method to
boot from USB2.
