Bootable disk

Windows XP has the ability to burn files to a CD-R but I wonder
why it won't add the MBR? I can't see why that should be
difficult and it would be useful not to have to buy extra
software for this small task.

Thank you both! Bart's page is very enlightening tho' I have not
tried Bartpe yet since set-up is mildly complicated. The FAQ has
explained why I got an error message when trying to run the
program and I am now trying to deal with that as instructed.

I am not sure that Bartpe will do what I want and I probably
should have mentioned why I wanted to get a bootable CD. My
back-up program, Dantz Retrospect, makes what it calls a
Disaster Recovery CD that has an iso image of a limited
operating system to restore a total backup of Windows XP from
the backup media. The CD is not bootable and I would like to
make a bootable version.

Am I missing something since I can burn the iso file to a CD
using Windows XP itself? It is making the thing bootable that is
the problem.

Contact the application vendor or consult the support section on their
web site. It would be up to them to provide bootable images for their
product or to make their backup software usable in another enviroment,
like DOS. If you need more information on how to make bootable cd's
search the internet for "El Torito" .
