Hi

The problem i have is that when i boot my pc i get an error message, BIOS
CHECKSUM ERROR. If i allow the computer to cool down a little (sometimes up
to 5 hours) it will reboot ok, but if i try to reboot it straight away i get
that message and there is no way of getting to any screen.

I have tried to make up a boot disk without any success. I have tried
booting from the XP disk and that doesnt work either.

If any one has any suggestions, i would really appreciate it, as i have no
clue what to do.

thanks
Yol

I think that error is the bios not windows so whatever you boot from the
error wont go away. Have you tried going into the bios (normally pressing
DEL at the bios screen) don't change anything just save the settings and
reboot. Or is there a message at the bottom of the screen that says press F1
to continue.
If the bios battery is low then that message may appear it could be just the
time and date that are wrong.

there is nothing on the screen except the error message and asks to put boot
disk in a: i cant go into dos, or into bios and change anything because it
doesnt give me any options.

My only option is to turn it off and wait for it to cool down, then i can
reboot and it starts ok.

Have you checked inside the PC to make sure the fans are working and the
vents aren't block or the processor heatsink is clear.?

Neil
PS to get into the bios you would need to tap the DEL key as the PC starts
before you get the CHECKSUM error.

What is the make and model of your motherboard and BIOS?

This freeware programme is excellent for getting information about your
computer:
Everest Home Edition (freeware)

Tip: To copy select Report, Quick Report, Plain Text, highlight required
text, right click and select copy. However, whilst this is fine for
posting small amounts of information into newsgroup messages
longer reports will irritate other newsgroup subscribers.

Hi

Thanks for that program its a great program like you said. My motherboard
is Gigabyte and my bios is award, so i went to those sites and all i get is
old updated files from 2002. The esupport website asks for $29.95 to
download the bios upgrade, but i dont want to pay that money if i am going
to get an old file.

Is there any other sites that has newer versions of these bios upgrades??

thanks

Can your copy / paste the Gigabyte and Award information from Everest
in a further post here?

Hi, here is the info,

Gigabyte GA-8ST667(-L)
Award BIOS Type Award Modular BIOS v6.00PG
Award BIOS Message GA-8ST667 F3

I have also downloaded a program called RegistryFix, and that sped up my
system but it hasnt fixed the boot problem. I also tried to reboot (after
waiting a few hours for it to cool down) and tried the fixboot command from
the repair section on winxp disk, and that didnt work either.

thanks
