Boot hangs

When I start Windows XP it restarts over and over. In
safe mode it hangs at agp440.sys. I've tried KB324764 but
don't understand item 5 that reads; Select the
installation number for the problem installation. typing
listsvc only gets another prompt. Can somebody tell me
what the definition of the installation number is or what
I'm doing wrong?

Hi

Item 5 - each installation of XP that you have on your hard disk/partition
will have a number. Type the number of the installation that is causing the
problem.

Did this occur after installing SP2? Same happened to me on an older
Athlon2000+ machine. Put together new P4 3.2 machine and it worked fine.
Reinstalled Win ME on old machine. Don't have any answer.
