Chris

I have a PC with XP Home edition. Just recently it is
failing to boot, it runs through to the XP boot screen
with the 'green circles', and then on occasion, gets to
the end of this and restarts. Sometimes I get the screen
and it says "the windows application was unsuccessful" I
get options such as start last known good configuration
etc. I suspect the boot files have become corrupt, but
would appreciate any help anyone could give. I suspect a
reinstall may be nessessary, but would boot disks help
out. I sont have a Win XP disk, but only a recovery disk.

Many Thanks

You can boot from the disk and then navigate to the
recovery console and when there type in help and hit
enter. This will give you a chance to read the various
things that you can do. There will be entries for
repairing the boot record or writing a new Master Boot
Record. The choice is yours. Good luck.

I am piggy-backing on this post with similar problem.
Can't seem to find :recovery console" option on Recovery
CD. Please advise.

If you have a "recovery" CD, and not a full installation CD, then Recovery
Console won't be available to you.
