boot disc thing

ok this is my situation

i just brought an old laptop, pentium 2, as just a
workstation to do assignments on. when i turn it on, it
loads into dos, it says windows 95 etc at the top then
c:. i also have a USB CD Rom and a floppy disc drive. how
do i install windows xp. when i put the xp disc into the
CD rom it does nothing, doesnt boot it. help me plz

Just put Win98se on the laotop.
If it is old enough to have come with Win95, it will not perform adequately
with WinXP.
