Building Windows XP SP3 recovery (rescue) discs

Ralph Ramirez

Tried searching this forum for an answer but came up empty. I am not
technical but feel I need to create rescue discs in the event of a big
disaster. I have read some articles that I found online but I really am too
confused to pick what is the safest and surest method. I would appreciate
any information you can provide that will help me to select the proper
method for creating the rescue discs.

System information:

HP Pavilion, Intel Pentium 4, 2.53 GHz, 1 Gig RAM. Windows XP Home Edition,
Version 2, Service Pack 3, hard drive is 70 GB with 28.9 GB free, DVD Rom CD
drive, a Seagate FreeAgent disc drive, 250 gig USB2 driven, 203 GB of free
space, and a 3 1/2" floppy drive.

Hope this information helps.

Thanks for looking and hope someone can help..............Ralph

As a microsoft tech put it "The file transfer wizard" is ones best backup
utility
in xp...Run the wizard from the xp cd,select the data & files to save, save to
new folder you created, once its thru, move to cd or other hd..Run the wizard
first in "old computer mode".With this backup, all the user data is saved,if
xp or
hardware fails,a new install of xp is required (recommended),then only
updates
to xp are needed,+ who says that the OS backup files one might save are w/o
corruption...

You want a RamDisk disc so that you can use the disc drive.
This is the best disc, but seeds are sometimes not available.
Try again and again for about a week, it's worth it.

Based on Bart`s WinPE, this WinPE build loads directly into ramdik to run directly from
your computers RAM memory.
This has sevreal advantages:
- boots in just a few seconds
- it is very fast, since in dosent have to load programs
from the CD
- you can remove the winpe CD after bootup and use
the optical drive for something else eg. burn backup
DVD`s with your files

Programs included:
- nu2 menu (start menu user interface)
- nero burning rom
- Image for windows (partition imaging software)
- winrar
- superpi
- prime95
- hddtach
- Drive rescue (undelete deleted files)
- partition magic
- mbr fix utility (allows you to repare the master boot
record, save/restore partition table from file and more
- Power defragmenter
- chkdsk utility (scan partitions for errors)
- cd force copy (recover files from a damaged CD/DVD)
- 2xExplorer (windows explorer like file manager)

Thanks for your response. Checked that link out but it was confusing to me
and the downloadable software is immense. If I knew what I was doing it
might be worth doing but I am not a technical person and might do more harm
than good.

Thanks again.............Ralph

Immense? 186 MB?

More harm than good?

I saved you months, if not years, of research. If you don't want my help, too bad. Your
loss.
