XP Home Edition rebuild - SP2 question

J

Jim

Hard Disc knackered on laptop so a new disc. About to rebuild PC with
Windows XP Home Edition recovery discs.

Question - my CD-ROM is only SP1A. After I rebuild with this should I just
do the SP2 upgrade next (i.e. first) and then do all other fixes, upgrades
etc.? Or do I take what is offered by an online Windows Update?

Basic question. Sorry but help appreciated.

Thanks.

I did the same recently - but with XP Pro.

My Recovery CDs were SP1, but I also have the genuine MS SP2 CD, so I
applied that next.

Then I went online to get all the other updates.

I think you can update to SP2 online, but it may be a BIG download and don't
forget to turn on the firewall before you go online.

Best of luck,

Roger.

Take a look at "slipstreaming"
You get the update download, take your original CD, slipstream and have
a SP2 CD.
