I haven't read either of those books, but here's an opinion anyway:

Resource kits are good references, but not great how-tos.
They typically don't help a beginner get to grips with basics.
But they give fairly comprehensive coverage on the topics they cover.

I don't know about the Sam book.

When I was a beginner in domain-based networking, for the transition to
win2k server ( which SBS is, essentially ), and all the issues therein ( AD,
DNS in particular ), I used:

Mark Minassi: Mastering Windows 2000 server
Published by Sybex
ISBN 0-7821-2827-6

In the UK, these are around £45.
In the US, around $60
Expensive, but worth it.

Especially when my first attempt was a real live installation.
( OK, I set up a test lab first, but the test lab domain became the real
live domain! )
