BLUE SCREEN

hi to all.. I have my computer at the office that turns on, I put my
password, it loads the system tray and then it shows only the desktop but no
icons and no system tray any more....

the only thing I'm able to do is to press: control + shift + del and the
task manager comes up and in tasks, there's no tasks running. I have some
things on "processes" but nothing else.. and I'm not able to do anything.

the color of the screen is like the desktop one, is not the real blue screen
for when windows is having issues....

can somebody please help me??? what's going on???I have no ideas...

thank you in advance for your answers!

No, it's not all that crazy. Contrary to popular belief Explore.exe is
not an essential Windows Process and not having it running doesn't
affect Windows itself or its ability to perform its other duties. In
certain environments explorer is turned off by design. Not having it
running makes it difficult or harder to do certain things but not
impossible.

There are different things that could be causing the problem you are
having. Start by checking this registry key to make sure that the
"Shell"="Explorer.exe" key has not been changed, the key is at:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon

there you will see the Shell item in the right hand panel, it's data
value should be Explorer.exe As you have already discovered you can
start programs from the Task Manager so just do the same thing to start
regedit.exe and verify the registry key. Regedit should be in the Winnt
folder.

If the registry key is correct then see if this article can help:

No Desktop or Blank Desktop After Logging On to Windows 2000
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q256194

If still that article can't solve the problem then post again, a repair
or reinstall of Internet Explorer might be necessary. Or an sfc scan
might fix things but doing so may require that you reinstall some of
your hotfixes and patches.
