Blue Screen of Death

In Trying to repair an existing Windows XP Home
installation, every effort including attempting to use
the repair console fails and a Blue Screen Stop error
comes on.

the error is 0x00000024 with other numbers and the other
information refers to ntfs.sys

I suspect that the owner of this computer has attempted
to reinstall windows using fat32 on an ntfs partition.

Am I wrong, is there anything that can be done?

Since XP is supposed to be the greatest thing since sliced bread I
didn't think it had a "blue screen of death"??
