I have posted this same problem under newsgroup and got a few responses but
no one seems to know what I can do. What happens is when I start the
computer the windows loading screen comes up then I get the blue screen with
the log in the center and it goes no further no matter how long I leave it
on. The cursor moves but nothing else happens. Once in awhile you see the
hourglass show which makes me think something is trying to happen but nothing
happens. It won't work in safe mode either. Please let me know what I can do

Do you mean the blue screen with error message? If so the pointer
activity may be due to the debug report being built.
If you can not get to Safe Mode either you may want to check you RAM.
First take the cover off the case, remove reseat the RAM modules.
Have a look for any loose wire connections.
If reseating the RAM has no effect, download/run:
http://www.memtest86.com/

Run it for at least six hours to efficiently test the modules.

Do you mean the Welcome screen that has the login box? And what cursor?
The blue, or green ( depending on which SP you have, (SP2 is blue, SP1 is
green) progress bar that moves form left to right?

If so, check to see if you left a cd in the cd rom..if so take it out and
reboot. You may get a black screen with white writing telling you that
Windows was not shut down properly, and will give you some choices..select "
Start Windows Normally' and see if that works.

The same thing is happening to me rigth now. The screen is all blue, and the
Windows XP logo is there just like when it's going to the log on page. I've
also tried safe mode and it goes right back to the same screen. At first the
"safe mode" words are in all four corners, than it goes back to the blue and
windows xp. PLEASE someone HELP.
Thank you,

Thank you Brian I will use your suggestions. The cursor I talk about is the
white pointer. Not really a cursor I guess sorry. There is no error message
it just won't go any further. Anyway thanks for your help

Hi Ivee - thank you for your response. Yes I mean the blue screen with the
logo in the center. The screen right before the desktop appears. There is
no error message and I meant the white pointer not a cursor. I will try your
suggestions and thank you again.
