Blue screen error PFN_LIST_CORRUPT

I am running win XP SP2 on a dell dimension 4700 4 gig ram. I have had
numerous problems with norton internet security 2007 in the past but loaded
the latest version yesterday and it seems to have solved all norton problems
I had. Now though, this morning I have had 3 blue screen errors appear while
in email that refer to PFN_LIST_CORRUPT. I don't have a clue what the
problem is. Has anyone else experienced a problem like this and if so did
you find a resolution for the problem. Thanks in advance for any
assistance...don't have much more hair to pull out!
 
Latest version ?, do you mean the 2008 version of NIS ? Over time NIS
has taken more than it's share of bandwidth on this Windows XP NG. It
is a never ending cause of issues/problems.

What happens if your uninstall NIS ? The question that comes to mind is
why persist in using a program that is well know for causing erratic system
operation. Essentially you are paying for a program that requires extra
effort to get it to run or run reliably.

NIS 2008 is brand new so finding/resolving issues with it isn't going to be
easy. As an "Early Adopter" you're at the front of the pack as far as new
issues appearing and locating solutions.

About the only suggestion I'd make is to completely remove NIS, Live
Update, Live Reg, Registry remnants, Orphan folders and then if you must
use NIS - reinstall it without any previous versions ( or pieces ) on the
PC.

From what I could find in a 5 minute Google session suggests that it may be
a RAM issue.

Thanks Bubba I'll check the ram issue out...

McCarty I have the latest release of NIS 2007 and you're right it has taken
me so much time to keep this silly program running...I am going to find a
better program to use for security (any suggestions) because I don't have
the time to keep uninstalling and reinstalling this program...especially for
the price they get for it and when you talk to them...it's like it's no big
deal that you are wasting your time....ah well life goes on...thanks for your
time.

Trouble-Free AV would be NOD32 from ESET. Around ~$39.00 for
a single seat license. For Firewall ( beyond XP's ) I would use Zone
Alarm (Free). For real-time Malware protection use Win Defender &
SpyBot and AdAware ( not version 2007 ) for occasional scan/removal.
 
From what I read (never used it) Kaspersky is very good, & tops at

getting virus cures done & out to subscribers.

I use Avast as I am cheap; it seems Ok for my needs.

Google shows 17,000 entries for PFN_LIST_CORRUPT, 1080 of them involve
NORTON.

The error seems to result from a corrupt I/O driver table or an ill-behaved
program writing data in some other driver's protected data space.

This error points to an internal Windows data structure which is essential
for the
operation of Windows. This is the table which lists all of the pages of RAM
and
which process owns said pages. If this table is corrupt, Windows cannot
continue.

What I would do is remove Norton. You will probably find that add/remove
will not
quite succeed in removing Norton. Thus, you need to run Symantec's program
which
gets rid of nearly all of it. Then, you will find orphan folders, registry
keys, etc.

You should regard the process of removing Norton as merely attending the
School of
Hard Knocks. Quite a few people on this list are graduates of that school.

It may be that Norton is the culprit.
