are u using windows xp? i had this problem before. i remeber i had to put the windows xp cd in from bootup to get to the recovery console.

Get the Windows Xp PRO cd with recovery console from someone. this should hopefully sort this out, im thinking its something to do with your boot setor or MBR. this is the very very first bit of data wriiten to any harddrive, this boot sector is damamged and needs to be repaired.

there is probably another way through dos but i aint a clue how to do it.
hope it helps

Boot the computer using the XP CD and when you see the Welcome to setup

press the letter R
you will get a dos prompt
Then type "chkdsk /p" without the quotes and hit enter
When that is done type "fixboot" and hit enter
"Y" and enter at the prompt
Then type "exit" and hit enter
The system should now reboot into Windows

If for some reason that doesn't work, you can boot to the recovery console as above
and...

Type "chkdsk /r" then enter
When done type "exit" and hit enter.
This will take longer, but the system should boot back into Windows

No CD … then download the Windows XP boot disk
For XP Pro

Or

For XP Home

… you must use the correct one for your system and you’ll need 6 floppies to do it

Hmmm, I've never had the 'pleasure' ... try a fresh copy, it may be a bad one.

Make sure each "floppy" is in it's own folder.
