Blue Screen Crash when opening an Excel file

I have Excel 2003 installed on a Win XP SP2 PC and sometimes Windows will
blue screen when you click on an Excel file to open it. The PC is patched
with the latest Windows security updates, and the PC is a fairly new machine,
a Gateway E-4500S desktop model. It seems that this problem began after one
of the Windows Updates was applied but I have no way to confirm that. When
the PC blue screens, it leaves no details in the application event log nor
does it ask to send an error report to Microsoft. The blue screen error
message has the following info: "Windows has been shut down to prevent
damage to your computer. STOP 0x00000027 (0XBAAD00A3, 0XA92604C4,
0XA92601C0, 0X805A2382)." Please advise. I have searched the Internet but
have not found a solution yet.

I was thinking about installing the latest MS Office 2003 service pack, but
all of our computers in the company have Office 2003 installed with no
service packs, and only 3 or 4 PCs in our company have this same Excel
problem. Excel crashes and Windows XP blue screens when you double-click on
an Excel file.

Jan,

Thank you for the suggestion but the Excel files that I am trying to open
are not corrupt. After I reboot the computer after the blue screen error,
the file opens fine. This problem occurs on a few computers in the company
and each user is opening a different Excel file. Please advise.
