Make sure that Outlook Express is updated. Then, open Outlook Express, click
tools, click options, click security, tick the box that says do not allow
attachments to be saved or opened that could potentially be a virus.

If Outlook Express is not updated you will probably need a third party tool
for such a thing.

Unfortunately you can't. You can block ALL attachments or none. If you
follow Galen's advice be aware that you will not be able to receive any
attachments. You might consider a different Email program as some do have
this capability.

Oops - I wasn't aware that this had changed with SP2. If you have the SP2
update a select list of attachments will be blocked. If not, all
attachments will be lost. (That pre SP2 attachment blocking, which was
enabled by default, was a disastrous blunder on Microsoft's part. My phone
rang off the hook from desperate business clients losing important files.
It's good to see it's at least partially corrected.)

Hi Penny,

I don't think this can be done for selected file-types. The Unsafe
attachments list is hard-coded, and contains many other file-types.

I've looked into this a little further.

1. Correction to my prior post: Contrary to my prior post I see that with
the OE will no longer block all attachments when the do not allow box is
checked. When this feature was first introduced and defaulted on, it
deleted any and all attachments and was a disaster. (My phone rang off the
hook from business clients losing important files like word docs.) Now it
uses the list cited in http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=883260

2. It is possible to customize the list as explained in
