blank screen

I am running windows xp home edition and Internet explorer 8. The problem I
am having is that every now then my screen will flash to a blank screen for
about a second or 2 then return to the normal screen. This will happen 2 or 3
times in an hour. I am running the windows firewall with eset nod 32
antivirus.
Could someone please offer me a solution.Thanks

Check your connections for power and your video cable. Make sure they are
plugged in well. If this is an older system, check for dust, pet hair, etc.
inside the case. Make sure your video card is seated well on the motherboard
(if it's not on-board video). Sounds more like a hardware problem than a
software one.

Maybe the screen is going black, and this is a "VPU recovery" event ?
Some video cards, when there is an error detected at the driver level,
have the ability to restart things. Perhaps there is an error being
logged somewhere when it happens.

I've never had that happen with any of the ATI cards I've owned, or if I
did, I didn't recognize it for what it was. Mostly when I had blackout
lock-ups, it took a power off to recover.
I love that last line:
VPU Recover substantially improves the end-user experience by handling
graphics hardware crashes in a much more graceful manner.

Hi guys Thanks for the help I have updated the graphic driver I am using
NVIDIA have been for ages but this problem only just happened I have switched
from ADSL to cable not sure if thats the problem or not but the problem seems
to only happen when I am using Internet Explorer 8 it does not happen when I
am using the pc for other things. I have re installed IE8 but the problem
still happens. Wondering if I should use system restore but if I did would I
have to re install my cable set up?
