Blank Screen

At start-up, we can't get past the loading screen. The screen goes black
right before the welcome screen comes up - with only the cursor's arrow
showing. The cursor is not frozen. We tried reinstalling xp - but there's no
action. Will we have to wipe out the harddrive and start over. We just added
cable internet to this computer.
