Blank screen after login

I have a user with a problem. When he boots the machine
and gets to the Novell prompt and hits ctrl+alt+del he
gets a blank screen. Now this only happens if he IS NOT
PLUGGED into the network. If a network connection is
present then he is able to login normally. Anyone have any
ideas? I checked the Event Viewer and it does show some
warnings of "no domain controller present".
