Blank desktop after XP installation

I just installed XP on a new PC and also installed Verizon Online. Now, when
I start my computer, it shows the desktop normally, then McAffee loads up,
then the desktop has NOTHING on it. Any suggestions? Thanks!

What happens in Safe Mode?
What happens with another user?
What happens if you uninstall McAfee?
