black screen

When I boot up win XP all I get is a black screen I still
have a mouse curser that moves but everything else is
black. If I start in safe mode it the same thing if I
right click the mouse I do not get the menu.

What changed between the time things worked and the time they didn't?
Instead of Safe Mode, can you boot to Last Known Good Configuration? If
yes, then while there you can make the necessary changes or do a System
Restore to before the problems occurred. If you can't get into Windows
in any form, do a Repair Install. Here's a link to instructions:
