Black screen after upgrading from W98 to XP Pro

I am upgrading my system from W98SE to XP Pro. After the screen to install
the system and the red bar goes all the way across, my computer was rebooted.
Once it reboots, I get the message to hit any key to boot from the CD... I
hit a key and the system states that it can't find the operating system. I
found that in my BIOS, there is an option to write protect my boot sector
which was enabled when I started the upgrade. What do I do at this point?

You haven't been following the progress properly.

During the upgrade process, the new installation files are loaded to your
hard drive [from the CD], once finished, the system will reboot and load off
the temporary diretory created in the first step.

If you happen to have left the CD in the PC, then BIOS will prompt as to
which boot device you want to use: of course booting off CD is NOT going to
achieve the completion of the XP upgrade.

Don't stuff up BIOS just read the tips and prompts on the screen.

So restart the PC, without a CD and you should be prompted to retry the XP
upgrade.
